Inclement Weather Information
In all periods of inclement weather, students, faculty and staff are reminded to use good judgment when making travel decisions. Life and safety are to be the primary considerations. MECHS students (freshman and sophomores) who are dependent upon public school transportation should follow the inclement weather policy for Mitchell County Schools.
MECHS students who are in regular Mayland Community College classes should follow the Mayland Community College inclement weather policy for attending.
OPTIONS
Mitchell County Schools make announcements concerning closings and delays on local media (WTOE, Spruce Pine, NC and WKYK, Burnsville, NC) along with WLOS (TV) Asheville, NC. Parents can also receive phone calls alerting them to schedule changes. Please contact MECHS for more information.
Mitchell County Schools use the following options during times of inclement weather:
- Open Regular Schedule
- 1 Hour Delay
- 2 Hour Delay
- 3 Hour Delay
- Closed

Mayland Community College Inclement Weather Procedures
Mayland Community College makes announcements concerning classes by four methods:
- Via SMS text message on cell phones (using LEO, Mayland's student activity website).
- Posted to LEO on the front page and to www.ncweatherclosings.com
- On the main MCC telephone number (828-765-7351)
- Via radio and television
